The rocky stretches along Del Mar — especially near 15th Street

and toward Torrey Pines — reveal the most beautiful

tide pools at low tide.

It’s one of those places where childhood feels cinematic.

Salt in the air.
Golden cliffs glowing.
Little hands pointing: “Mom, look!”

Our Del Mar Ritual

Some of my favorite mornings with Michael are spent

walking barefoot along the shoreline in Del Mar, waiting for the tide to recede.

We time it just right — low tide magic hour.

The rocks begin to reveal tiny worlds: sea stars clinging bravely,

anemones closing shyly, crabs darting sideways like mischievous little surfers.

There’s something about kneeling on those sun-warmed rocks,

ocean breeze in my hair, watching him discover life inside a tide pool…

It feels like slowing time.

No rush.
No agenda.
Just presence.

Living by the ocean is such a gift — but the real gift isn’t the view.

It’s witnessing your child fall in love with nature.

Why Del Mar Tide Pools Are So Special for Kids

  • Gentle access compared to some rugged coastlines

  • Rich marine biodiversity

  • Dramatic cliffs that feel adventurous but safe

  • That dreamy Southern California golden light

And honestly?
It’s the kind of place that imprints on a child’s nervous system.

Ocean rhythms teach regulation without saying a word.
